Jackson Suber delivered one of the more notable performances involving a lesser-known name at the 2026 Open Championship, finishing ahead of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and several other established stars. While he did not close with his best golf on Sunday, his overall week at Royal Birkdale still stood out.
After 54 holes, Suber was very much in the mix. He entered the final round tied for sixth place, alongside Ludvig Aberg and Bryson DeChambeau, and sat four shots off the lead. That position gave him a real chance to climb even higher with a strong finish.
Instead, the final day proved more difficult, as Suber stumbled during Sunday’s round. Even so, he stayed ahead of a number of major names on the leaderboard, which underscored how solid his tournament had been across the first three rounds and over the course of the week.
For Suber, the result still represented a significant showing on one of golf’s biggest stages. At Royal Birkdale, he may not have made a late charge to the top, but finishing in front of players such as McIlroy and Rahm ensured his Open Championship performance drew attention.
