An altered publication ban has revealed more about a Saint John murder case in which Roman Kamyshnyy was convicted earlier this month of killing his two sons. While the ban still prevents the boys from being identified, it now allows reporting on the family relationships and more of the domestic violence context presented in court.
According to the newly reportable details, the victims were Kamyshnyy’s own sons. The case was described by the Crown as a tragic story of domestic violence, with court proceedings shedding more light on what happened inside the family before the killings.
The reporting also indicates that the boys’ mother had wanted to separate from her husband. However, the start of the war in Ukraine changed her immediate priorities, shifting her attention to protecting and caring for their children.
Part of the court evidence came from a woman identified only as Witness A, reflecting the ongoing publication restrictions in the case. Even with some limits still in place, the updated ruling has allowed a fuller account of the relationships involved in one of Saint John’s most disturbing family murder cases.
