A striking new installation outside Serpentine South Gallery is drawing attention with 4,000 bright yellow strands suspended over the lawn. Rather than keeping viewers at a distance, the work is designed to be entered, turning a simple visit into a physical, immersive experience.
The piece is identified as Jesús Rafael Soto’s Pénétrable BBL Jaune, listed as a 1999 work in a 2023 edition. Its dense curtain of vivid strands shifts gently in the open air, creating a bold visual field that changes as people move around it and through it.
Set in front of the gallery, the installation blurs the line between sculpture and environment. From afar, it reads as a bright geometric form, but up close it becomes something more interactive, inviting passersby to walk inside and experience the artwork from within.
By placing the work outdoors on the gallery grounds, the presentation makes the installation feel especially accessible. The result is a highly visible art display that transforms the lawn into a space of motion, color, and participation.
