Tilak Varma has highlighted India's limited exposure outside Asia as a major reason for the batting problems that surfaced in the recent T20I series in Ireland and England. With India preparing for three T20Is against Zimbabwe in Harare, his assessment has drawn attention to the team's six-match losing stretch and the factors behind it.
According to Varma's view, the challenge was not just form but adjustment. A batting group used to playing largely in Asian conditions found it harder to adapt quickly when confronted with different overseas environments, and that lack of familiarity was reflected in the results.
His comments point to a wider issue for the side: experience in varied conditions matters, especially in T20 cricket where there is little room for slow adaptation. When conditions change, batting plans, tempo and decision-making can all come under pressure, making preparation and exposure increasingly important.
The upcoming Zimbabwe series now offers India a chance to respond. After difficult outings in Ireland and England, the matches in Harare provide an immediate opportunity for the batting unit to show better adjustment and regain momentum.
