Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has flagged off 139 GSRTC buses to strengthen transportation for tribal students in the state. The rollout comes under the Birsa Munda transport scheme and is aimed at improving travel access for students who depend on public transport.
According to the details shared, the project involves an outlay of Rs 33.8 crore. The new buses are also GPS-enabled, a feature that can help with route monitoring and operational oversight while improving the reliability of student transport services.
The initiative is expected to benefit around 4,100 tribal students. By adding dedicated buses under the state-run transport network, the government is looking to ease commuting challenges that can affect students living in tribal regions and other less-connected areas.
The flag-off marks a fresh push by the Gujarat government to expand mobility support for tribal communities through public infrastructure. With the addition of these buses, the state is positioning transport access as an important part of educational support for tribal students.
