A software professional in Pune has reportedly lost around ₹4.35 lakh in an online matrimonial fraud case after being deceived by a person claiming to be an Indian Foreign Service officer. The accused allegedly presented himself as being posted in Russia and used the prospect of marriage to build trust.
According to the details available, the victim was drawn into what appeared to be a genuine matrimonial conversation. The scam reportedly escalated when the fraudster sought money on the pretext of medical treatment, leading the Pune man to transfer a substantial amount.
The case highlights a familiar pattern in online relationship and matrimonial scams, where imposters create credible identities, gain emotional confidence and then ask for urgent financial help. Claims involving prestigious jobs, overseas postings and personal emergencies are often used to make such requests seem believable.
