India has again raised the issue of seafarer safety in the Black Sea, signaling that the welfare of Indian crew members remains a priority in its talks with Russia. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated New Delhi’s concern during discussions with his Russian counterpart, linking the matter to broader bilateral engagement.
The diplomatic push came shortly after India summoned the Russian Charge d'Affaires over the MV Golden Leo incident. That step underlined the seriousness with which New Delhi is treating the safety risks faced by Indian seafarers operating in or passing through the region.
Alongside the immediate concern over maritime safety, the meeting between the two sides also covered wider India-Russia relations. Even so, the Black Sea issue stood out as a sensitive point, with India making clear that protection of its nationals at sea is an important part of its foreign policy discussions.
The development reflects growing attention on the security of commercial shipping and crew members in areas affected by conflict and instability. For India, the latest exchange with Russia shows an effort to combine diplomatic engagement with a firm message on the safety of Indian seafarers.
