Researchers working with Revel Pharmaceuticals, Calico and the University of Colorado have reported progress on a new anti-aging approach centered on an engineered enzyme. According to the report, the enzyme was able to remove a stubborn molecular sign of aging by as much as 70% in human tissue samples.
The finding is notable because the target appears to be one of the more difficult age-related changes to reverse. That makes the result especially important for scientists studying whether some forms of biological aging can be slowed, repaired or partially undone at the tissue level.
The work remains at an early research stage, and the results described involve human tissue samples rather than treatments tested in people. Even so, the study suggests that carefully designed enzymes could become a promising tool for tackling cellular damage that builds up over time.
For longevity researchers, the broader significance is that aging may be influenced by targeted interventions rather than only managed through general health measures. While much more testing will be needed, the new enzyme-based strategy adds to growing interest in therapies aimed at reversing specific biological marks linked to aging.
