Water supply across Vasai-Virar was disrupted after heavy rain and strong winds triggered power outages at key water treatment plants and pumping stations. The interruption brought the area’s water distribution system to a halt, affecting a reported 370 MLD supply.
The disruption appears to be linked directly to the weather-related power failure rather than a problem inside the treatment system itself. With electricity cut off at critical facilities, both treatment and pumping operations were unable to continue, leaving large parts of the region without regular water flow.
Restoration of supply now depends on repair work by MSEDCL, which is responsible for bringing power back to the affected installations. Until the electricity connection is fully restored, normal water operations are unlikely to resume across the network.
The incident highlights how extreme weather can quickly affect basic civic services, especially when utilities such as water treatment and pumping rely on uninterrupted power. For residents in Vasai-Virar, the immediate concern remains when electricity will return and water supply can restart.
