Google says it has reduced scroll jank in Chrome for Android by 48% over the period from 2023 to 2026. The company shared the update as part of a closer look at scrolling performance in its mobile browser.
Scroll jank is the kind of uneven motion users notice when a page stutters, jumps, or otherwise fails to move smoothly while they are swiping. Even small interruptions can make web browsing feel less responsive, so improvements in this area are closely tied to perceived speed and overall usability.
By highlighting the drop in jank, Google is pointing to a broader effort to make Chrome on Android feel more fluid in everyday use. Smoother scrolling matters across news sites, search results, social feeds, and other content-heavy pages where constant touch input is part of the experience.
