Mauro Schmid claimed victory on Stage 13 of the Tour de France after timing his effort perfectly in a sprint against Harold Tejada. The pair emerged from a large 57-man breakaway and stayed clear to fight for the stage win, with Schmid finishing the job at the line.
Behind the leading duo, Tom Pidcock crossed in third after the breakaway provided the key action of the day. With so many riders up the road, the stage developed into an opportunity for attackers rather than a direct battle between the top names in the general classification.
That meant the overall contenders were able to get through the day without major pressure. While the breakaway riders pushed for the stage, the GC favourites remained largely out of trouble and avoided any significant shake-up in the race for yellow.
Stage 13 therefore delivered a contrasting picture at the Tour de France: a sharp, decisive finish for the stage hunters and a relatively calm day for the men focused on the overall standings. Schmid, however, made sure the day belonged to him with a well-judged move in the final sprint.
