Nvidia has secured AI memory supply from South Korea’s SK Hynix, strengthening access to a critical part used in its advanced processors and systems. The move underscores how important high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, has become for the company’s AI hardware lineup.
HBM is a key component in the GPUs and related systems that power artificial intelligence workloads. By locking in supply from SK Hynix, Nvidia appears to be taking steps to reduce risk around one of the most important parts of the AI chip supply chain as demand remains strong.
The agreement, announced late Friday, fits Nvidia’s broader effort to make sure it has enough memory for current and future AI products. The report framed the arrangement as part of a larger $500 billion AI deal, highlighting the scale of investment and planning now surrounding the sector.
For the wider market, the Nvidia-SK Hynix agreement points to a bigger trend: leading chip companies are moving aggressively to secure essential materials and components before shortages can disrupt production.
