Florence Welch’s long-running renovation project at her Grade II-listed Somerset mansion has run into another delay, with work reportedly paused after bats were found at the property. The singer bought the Gothic home in 2020, and the restoration has now stretched across five years.
The latest interruption follows an earlier setback during the initial phase of the project. Builders previously uncovered skeletons believed to be connected to an ancient burial ground, forcing work to stop while that discovery was addressed.
That means the Somerset house has faced repeated complications during its restoration. With a listed building, unexpected issues linked to heritage concerns or protected wildlife can slow progress and add further hurdles before construction can continue.
The result is an unusually dramatic renovation story around Welch’s historic home, combining an old Gothic mansion, burial-ground remains and now bats. For the moment, the refurbishment appears to be on hold again while the newest obstacle is dealt with.
