Bellum carved out a niche with programs including "Corrupt Crimes" and "Motive to Murder," helping McDonnell become a recognizable figure in unscripted crime TV.
According to the report, McDonnell needed cash as pressure mounted around her business. The description also says she told people she was an heiress, a claim that added to the image she projected while running the company.
That picture has since unraveled. McDonnell is said to have vanished, leaving lawsuits behind and raising fresh questions about Bellum Entertainment's financial and legal troubles. The case has also drawn federal attention. The FBI believes McDonnell is in Dubai, turning the story into an international search tied to a once-successful TV producer whose off-screen troubles now overshadow the crime shows that made her company known.
