Destination weddings are set to take a bigger share of the Indian wedding market over the next few years, according to WedMeGood’s Destination Wedding Report 2026. The report estimates that destination weddings could account for 30-32% of Indian weddings by 2028.
At present, destination weddings make up nearly one in four weddings in India, the report says. The latest projection points to steady growth from that level, suggesting that what was once seen as a niche format is becoming a more common choice for couples and families.
A key driver behind the shift is changing preference. Couples are increasingly opting for smaller, experience-focused celebrations rather than larger traditional events, according to the report. That trend is helping destination weddings gain traction as people prioritize the overall setting and guest experience.
The findings indicate a broader change in how Indian weddings are being planned. If the projected rise continues, destination weddings will represent a significantly larger part of the country’s wedding landscape by 2028.
