Iran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, said Tehran’s quick rescue of the crew from a Mozambican-flagged LPG tanker showed the country’s commitment to the safety of seafarers. His remarks came after the vessel was attacked near Iranian territorial waters.
According to the ambassador, all crew members were rescued, including 28 Indian nationals. The incident has drawn attention in India because of the large number of Indian sailors involved and the location of the attack close to Iran’s waters.
Fathali presented the rescue as an example of Iran’s readiness to respond rapidly in emergencies at sea. His comments highlighted the humanitarian side of the operation, focusing on the protection of sailors regardless of nationality.
The case also underlines how maritime security incidents in sensitive waters can quickly become matters of regional concern. With Indian nationals among those rescued, the episode has taken on diplomatic significance in addition to its immediate safety implications.
