A planned $110bn merger between Paramount and Warner Bros has been put on hold as a legal challenge continues. For now, the two Hollywood companies will stay fully separate rather than combining their operations.
The pause is expected to remain in place until a judge issues a final decision or until 1 June 2027, whichever comes first. That means Paramount and Warner Bros will keep operating as rival studios while the case is resolved.
Those challenging the deal say a combined company could weaken the bargaining position of writers and production crews. They also argue that fewer independent studio options could reduce the number of projects available across the industry.
Critics of the merger further contend that less competition between major studios could eventually narrow choices for audiences. Until the court reaches a final verdict, the proposed tie-up remains suspended and the companies will continue to compete separately.
