Russia and Ukraine exchanged major overnight attacks in a sharp escalation of the war, with Kyiv reporting a deadly missile and drone assault on the capital while Ukrainian forces targeted oil facilities inside Russia.

According to the initial reports, Russia launched ballistic missiles and attack drones toward Kyiv overnight. The strike killed at least nine people, adding to the toll from repeated attacks on Ukraine’s capital.

At the same time, Ukraine said its forces hit refinery and oil-related sites deep in Russian territory. Those strikes point to Kyiv’s continued effort to pressure Russia’s energy infrastructure as both sides try to expand the reach and impact of their operations.

The latest wave of attacks highlights how the conflict is increasingly defined by long-range strikes on cities and strategic facilities. With Kyiv facing another deadly barrage and Russia’s refineries coming under attack, the fighting showed no sign of easing.
