Ukraine is seeking US help in a sensitive new debate over Elon Musk’s Starlink system. According to the report, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised the issue with President Donald Trump and other American officials as Kyiv tries to win approval to use Starlink for guiding strikes inside Russia.
The request centers on Starlink’s role as a satellite communications network that has become closely associated with Ukraine’s war effort. The latest push suggests Kyiv wants broader authority for how the system can be used, moving beyond battlefield communications and toward operations aimed at targets across the Russian border.
At the same time, Moscow is said to view Starlink as a serious threat. That framing highlights why any change in how the system is used could carry major military and political consequences, especially given the involvement of both US officials and Musk, whose company controls the service.
The issue places Ukraine’s battlefield needs, US political influence and private-sector control of critical wartime technology into the same conversation. It also underlines how Starlink remains central to the wider struggle over communications, targeting and escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war.
