A Russian air attack on Kyiv killed at least nine people and wounded dozens, according to the latest reports from Ukraine’s capital. The strike hit a residential area, with emergency crews seen working outside a damaged multi-storey apartment building.

The attack comes as Moscow has stepped up long-range strikes on Ukrainian towns and cities. Kyiv has remained a frequent target, and the latest bombardment again highlighted the risks to civilians living far from the front lines.

Images from the scene showed rescue efforts continuing around the damaged building as responders searched the area and dealt with the aftermath. The reported casualty toll made it one of the deadlier recent strikes on the capital.

As Russian attacks continue, Ukraine has been pressing its partners for stronger air defence support. Officials in Kyiv have repeatedly argued that more protective systems are needed to shield cities and reduce the impact of missile and drone attacks.
