Madurai police have arrested six people, including two minors, in a narcotics case involving ganja and prescription painkiller tablets. According to the reported details, the group was allegedly involved in selling the seized substances illegally.
Police said they recovered 1.1 kg of ganja and 161 Tapentadol tablets during the operation. Tapentadol is a painkiller that can be misused when diverted from legitimate medical channels, making such seizures significant from both a law-enforcement and public health perspective.
Cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The action highlights continuing efforts by police in Madurai to curb the illegal trade in cannabis and controlled tablets, especially in cases that also involve minors.
The arrests add to ongoing enforcement against street-level narcotics distribution in the city. Investigators are expected to pursue the case under the relevant provisions of the NDPS law based on the materials seized and the allegations of illegal sale.
