Doctors are warning about a facial change called temporal hollowing as more patients use GLP-1 weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Zepbound. The term refers to a sunken appearance at the temples, the areas on the sides of the forehead between the eyes and hairline.
According to the report, the effect is being noticed alongside rapid weight loss. When fat volume in the face decreases quickly, the temples can look more hollow, which may make a person appear older, thinner or more drawn in the face.
The issue is being discussed more often as GLP-1 medications become increasingly popular for weight loss. While these drugs are known for helping people shed pounds, doctors are also watching for visible cosmetic changes that can come with fast body-fat reduction.
Temporal hollowing is not presented as the main purpose or defining outcome of these medications, but it is one of the appearance-related side effects now getting more attention. The concern highlights how rapid GLP-1 weight loss can affect not only the scale, but also facial contours.
