DBS has appointed Nitin Chengappa to lead its wealth operations in India, adding an executive with prior experience at Standard Chartered to a key role in one of its important growth markets.

According to Bloomberg-cited sources, Chengappa joined DBS in July. The report said he will report to Ambuj Chandna, who oversees consumer banking for DBS in India.

The move highlights DBS’s focus on strengthening its India wealth business as banks compete for affluent and investment-focused customers. Bringing in a senior banker with wealth and consumer banking experience suggests the lender is sharpening leadership around that segment.

While only limited details of the appointment have been made public, the change places Chengappa at the center of DBS’s wealth operations in India. His reporting line to Chandna also ties the role closely to the bank’s broader consumer banking strategy in the country.
