A consumer commission in Kerala has ordered Air India to pay Rs 1.36 lakh to a passenger after a delayed domestic flight caused him to miss his onward journey to Saudi Arabia. The ruling comes after a long-running dispute linked to an incident from 2017.

According to the case details available in the report, the passenger was left stranded overnight at Mumbai airport when the domestic delay disrupted his international travel plans. The missed connection reportedly caused financial loss as well as significant emotional distress, which became central to his complaint.

The commission ruled against the airline and directed it to compensate the passenger for the impact of the disruption. The decision highlights how delays on one leg of a journey can have serious consequences when travelers are depending on a tightly connected international itinerary.

The case also draws attention to the responsibilities airlines face when domestic delays lead to missed overseas flights. For passengers, the order reinforces that consumer forums may step in when a travel disruption results in documented loss, inconvenience and prolonged hardship.
