India’s mobile apps market reached a new high of $345 million in the second quarter, marking a 35% increase from a year earlier. The latest growth suggests the country is strengthening its position not only as a massive app download market, but also as one where users are increasingly willing to pay for digital services.
A major driver of that rise was spending on subscriptions across AI services, video streaming and other digital platforms. The shift points to changing user behaviour in India, where paid app experiences appear to be gaining wider acceptance after years of the market being defined largely by scale and installs.
Non-gaming apps played a central role in the quarter’s performance. Revenue from that segment alone was close to $240 million, up more than 50% year on year, highlighting stronger demand for utility, entertainment and subscription-led platforms beyond mobile games.
The Q2 figures indicate that India’s app economy is becoming more mature, with monetisation improving alongside its already huge user base. For developers and platform companies, the trend signals a market that is moving beyond downloads and toward more sustainable consumer spending on app-based services.
