McDonald's reported mixed results for the second quarter of 2026, with growth in its U.S. business losing momentum. The company said U.S. same-store sales rose 0.8%, a gain that was well below the 2.5% increase recorded in the same quarter a year earlier.
The slowdown appears to reflect softer customer traffic in the domestic market. While sales at established locations still increased, the smaller rise suggests fewer guests visited U.S. restaurants during the period.
Alongside the earnings update, McDonald's said a 26-year company veteran will become president of its U.S. business. The leadership change comes as the fast-food chain works through a more challenging environment in its home market.
The latest report points to a business that is still growing, but at a slower pace in the United States than investors saw a year ago. McDonald's now faces the task of improving traffic trends while its new U.S. leader takes over one of the company's most important divisions.
