Russian President Vladimir Putin met with ALROSA chief executive Pavel Marinychev to review the diamond miner’s recent performance and development plans. The discussion covered the company’s core diamond business as well as related industrial and manufacturing projects.
A central topic was the creation of what was described as Europe’s largest diamond-cutting cluster in Smolensk. The project points to ALROSA’s push beyond extraction and toward more value-added processing inside Russia, linking mining output with cutting and downstream production.
Marinychev also reported on exploration work at hard-to-reach diamond deposits, highlighting the company’s efforts to sustain production through more challenging resource development. In addition to diamonds, the update included ALROSA’s work in gold mining and jewellery production, showing a broader business focus across several parts of the precious materials market.
The report also touched on the company’s energy operations, an important part of supporting mining activity in remote areas. Overall, the meeting presented ALROSA as a major industrial player balancing diamond extraction, processing expansion in Smolensk, and diversification into adjacent sectors.
