Many Canadian travellers are unaware that federal travel advisories may affect or even void their travel insurance coverage, according to a new survey commissioned by Canada’s foreign service.
The findings point to a gap in travellers’ understanding of how Ottawa’s alerts can influence insurance protection. People who travel to destinations covered by government warnings may not realize that their policy could contain exclusions tied to those advisories.
The survey also found that many Canadians do not know what assistance embassies can provide while they are abroad. This suggests travellers may be uncertain about where to seek help if they encounter difficulties outside the country.
Together, the results highlight limited awareness of both travel insurance conditions and the role of Canadian diplomatic missions overseas.
