NITI Aayog has recommended a dedicated policy framework to address the needs of India’s expanding ageing population. The proposal places caregiving at the centre of a broader strategy for supporting older people and those who provide their care.
The recommendations call for regulation of the caregiving ecosystem and the creation of essential standards. Such measures would aim to bring greater structure and consistency to caregiving services across the country.
The report also highlights social security for caregivers, alongside financial incentives and opportunities to build caregiving-related enterprises. These proposals are intended to strengthen support for caregivers while encouraging the growth of the care sector.
The suggested framework would provide a national policy direction for ageing-related care, combining service standards with economic and social support for caregivers.
