Wes Streeting has pledged that the UK will stand with Ukraine until it prevails, making the commitment during his first visit to Kyiv as Andy Burnham’s defence secretary. The visit comes as the war remains a central security issue for Britain and its allies.

Streeting, 43, said Russia is losing the war, according to the details of the visit. His remarks came only hours after a wave of Russian ballistic missile and drone attacks struck Kyiv.

The attacks left at least 17 people dead and 44 injured, highlighting the continuing human cost of the conflict as Streeting met Ukrainian officials. His declaration was framed as a firm commitment to continued support for Ukraine.

The Kyiv visit and his comments underline the UK government’s stated position that backing for Ukraine will continue while the country seeks to withstand Russia’s invasion and prevail in the war.
