At least 21 people were killed and dozens more injured after Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine involving 115 drones and 24 ballistic missiles. The assault placed renewed focus on the strain facing Ukraine’s air-defence systems.
Many of the drones were intercepted, but depleted defences meant that a significant number of the incoming weapons were not stopped. One missile struck the home of Anastasiia, highlighting the impact on civilians.
The attack was described as one of the most frightening nights for those affected, as explosions and damage were reported amid the barrage. The casualties underline the continuing danger posed by Russian air and missile strikes across Ukraine.
