Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has warned visitors against heading to so-called "hidden gem" waterfalls and quarries that are not officially listed for tourism. His message was aimed at both tourists and social media influencers who often promote lesser-known locations as must-visit spots.
According to the minister, travelers should stick to notified waterfalls and lakes that are recognized by the authorities. These approved sites are better prepared for visitors, while unlisted locations may not have basic safety arrangements in place.
Khaunte highlighted that many of these offbeat places do not have lifeguards, rescue teams or emergency support available. That makes visits riskier, especially during periods when water levels, slippery terrain or deep quarry areas can create dangerous conditions.
The warning reflects a broader push for safer tourism in Goa, where natural attractions continue to draw large crowds. By urging people to choose approved destinations over viral "hidden gems," the state appears to be stressing that scenic appeal should not come before visitor safety.
