Beirut-based design label Studio Majnoona has introduced FRATA, its first limited-edition furniture collection, built around Lebanon’s devalued 250 and 500 LBP coins. The project turns old silver- and gold-toned currency into decorative surfaces, using the coins as repeating elements that form striking patterns across collectible pieces.
According to the available details, the collection explores the link between memory and material value. By embedding coins that have lost much of their purchasing power into furniture, the studio reframes them as objects of visual and cultural significance rather than everyday money.
The result is a design approach that blends craftsmanship, storytelling and reuse. Instead of treating the coins as discarded remnants of a difficult economic period, FRATA incorporates them into functional works that preserve a visible connection to Lebanon’s recent history.
With this debut collection, Studio Majnoona positions furniture as a medium for reflection as much as utility. FRATA uses repurposed Lebanese currency to create patterned, collectible design pieces that speak to loss, remembrance and transformation.
