West Bengal has announced a fresh tourism push for North Bengal, centred on eco-friendly projects and visitor support infrastructure. The plan includes 10 container-based homestays at Sandakphu, with the accommodation project expected to be ready by January.
The state also aims to set up 100 tourism information centres across North Bengal. These centres are expected to improve access to travel guidance and help visitors navigate destinations in the region more easily.
A budget allocation of Rs 5,017.3 crore has been outlined for the wider initiative, highlighting the scale of the state’s tourism development plans. The focus on eco-friendly stays suggests an effort to balance tourism growth with more sustainable infrastructure.
The announcement signals a broader attempt to strengthen North Bengal’s appeal as a travel destination while expanding facilities for tourists. With Sandakphu included in the plan, the state is placing attention on both destination development and practical support services for travellers.
