Russia has called on Elon Musk to stop providing Starlink satellite internet to Ukrainian troops. In remarks attributed to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Moscow argued that if Musk truly wants to reduce the loss of life, he should end access to the service for Ukraine’s military.
The Russian argument is that Starlink helps Ukrainian forces maintain battlefield connectivity and enables long-range drone operations. Moscow says those attacks have killed civilians and is using that claim to press Musk over the network’s continued role in the conflict.
The dispute highlights how Starlink has become part of the wider political struggle around military technology in the war. Although it is a communications system, Russia is portraying the service as a tool that directly affects combat operations because of its reported use by Ukrainian forces.
The latest appeal places Musk and Starlink at the center of a broader debate over private technology in wartime. It also shows how satellite internet, once discussed mainly as infrastructure, is now being treated by governments as a strategic element of the battlefield.
