Tech Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra said artificial intelligence is unlikely to reduce the importance of India’s IT services industry. Speaking at the company’s annual general meeting, he argued that AI is more likely to increase the sector’s relevance as businesses move from experimentation to wider enterprise use.

Mahindra also emphasized the need for India to develop sovereign AI capabilities. The message highlights a broader industry focus on building domestic strength in critical technologies, especially as companies and governments pay closer attention to control, security and long-term competitiveness.
He said trusted AI deployment could become a major opportunity for the sector. That suggests the next phase for IT services may center not just on building AI systems, but on helping enterprises use them responsibly, reliably and in ways that support business transformation.
