Julie and Scott Halpert have turned personal grief into a new mental health effort in the Ann Arbor area. After losing their son Garrett to suicide, the couple established Garrett’s Space, a healing space designed to support young adults and help address suicide prevention.
The project is located in Superior Township, north of Ann Arbor, on a wooded property that stood out to the family from the beginning. According to the report, Julie Halpert felt a strong connection to the place when she first visited the custom-built home that is now part of the effort.
Garrett’s Space was created as a response to the need for more supportive environments for young adults facing emotional struggles. The Halperts’ goal is rooted in their family’s experience and in a desire to create a place focused on healing, connection and hope.
By building Garrett’s Space near Ann Arbor, the family is honoring Garrett’s memory while working to help others who may be dealing with mental health challenges. The effort reflects a broader push to expand compassionate support for young adults and reduce the risk of suicide.
