KB Kookmin Bank, the largest bank in South Korea, is preparing to introduce a blockchain-based payment service for trade customers. The rollout is scheduled for August and will use JPMorgan’s Kinexys blockchain network to handle cross-border payment activity tied to imports and exports.

The initial service will focus on US dollar trade payments for corporate clients. According to the available details, the launch will cover 10 countries in its first phase, giving import and export businesses a new channel for settling international transactions.

The move highlights how major banks are increasingly applying blockchain technology to practical financial services rather than limiting it to experimentation. In this case, the emphasis is on trade payments, where speed, visibility and operational efficiency are often key concerns for companies moving money across borders.

For KB Kookmin Bank, the partnership with JPMorgan points to a broader push to modernize transaction infrastructure for business customers. As the August launch approaches, the bank’s Kinexys-based service will be watched as a notable example of blockchain adoption in mainstream trade finance.
