South Korea’s KB Kookmin Bank, described as the country’s largest bank, is preparing to launch a blockchain-based cross-border payment service built on JPMorgan’s Kinexys platform. According to local media reports cited in the snippet, the new service is set to start in August and will target import and export businesses.
The planned offering will support US dollar settlements across 10 countries. That gives corporate customers involved in international trade a new option for handling overseas payments through a blockchain-based banking network.
The project is another sign that large financial institutions are focusing on blockchain for practical payment infrastructure. Cross-border settlements remain one of the clearest use cases, especially for banks serving companies that regularly move funds between markets.
For KB Kookmin Bank, the launch would add a new digital payment tool for trade-related clients. For JPMorgan, the use of Kinexys by a major South Korean bank points to continued interest in blockchain-powered settlement services within mainstream banking.
