West Bengal businesses have been sanctioned Rs 11,272 crore under the Centre’s Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) as of July 16. The support has reached around 32,000 beneficiaries in the state, according to the latest figures.
The Bengal numbers form part of a much larger national rollout under the credit guarantee programme. Across India, total sanctions under ECLGS have touched Rs 1.8 lakh crore, reflecting the scale of government-backed lending extended to businesses.
The national tally also includes Rs 5,000 crore earmarked for airlines, showing that the scheme has covered both smaller enterprises and sectors facing heavier financial pressure. In Bengal, the sanctioned amount points to strong use of the facility by businesses seeking additional credit support.
The latest data underlines the continued importance of guaranteed lending in maintaining liquidity for companies. For West Bengal, the size of the sanctioned amount and the number of beneficiaries indicate that the scheme has been a significant source of financial backing for local businesses.
