Bain Capital is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire as much as a 25% stake in IndusInd General Insurance, in what would be the private equity firm's first insurance investment in India. The discussions point to a sizeable transaction in the country's financial services sector.

Based on the terms being discussed, the deal could value IndusInd General Insurance at more than Rs 16,000 crore. Bain Capital is expected to invest roughly Rs 4,000 crore to Rs 5,000 crore if the transaction goes through in its current form.

The potential investment highlights continued investor interest in India's insurance market, especially in businesses seen as having room to scale. A minority stake of this size would still give Bain Capital meaningful exposure to the insurer's growth without taking full control.

While the talks appear to be at an advanced stage, no final agreement has been publicly confirmed. If completed, the transaction would stand out as a major private equity bet on an Indian general insurer and a notable new move for Bain Capital in the country.
