India’s push for next-generation green firecrackers has run into fresh regulatory resistance, with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) raising concerns over the presence of a banned chemical. The issue has cast doubt on whether these products can be cleared for wider commercial production.
According to the report, there is no clear consensus within the government system on allowing the new green crackers into the market. Two official bodies appear to differ on the way forward, leaving the approval process uncertain.
The development is significant because green crackers are promoted as a cleaner alternative to conventional firecrackers. But the latest red flag suggests that newer versions will still face close scrutiny if they contain ingredients that are not permitted under existing rules.
With regulators divided, the debate now centers on whether the new products meet the standards required to be sold as environmentally safer options in India. Until that is resolved, commercial rollout is likely to remain under question.
