Kitchen utensils and cookware became more expensive in India in June, as rising global metal prices fed through to retail shelves. The increase affected everyday kitchen items such as stainless steel utensils, pressure cookers and non-stick cookware, adding to household spending on basic goods.
The main pressure appears to be coming from higher input costs. Along with stronger global metal prices, elevated stainless steel production costs have made it more expensive for companies to manufacture and sell kitchenware. That has led to visible price increases in stores.
Among the categories highlighted, inflation for stainless steel utensils rose to 7.1 percent compared with a year earlier. Pressure cooker prices were also higher, up 4.7 percent, while other cookware segments, including non-stick products, also saw increases in June.
The near-term outlook suggests limited relief. With metal prices staying firm, the cost trend is expected to remain under pressure through the third quarter, meaning consumers may continue to see elevated prices for kitchen utensils and cookware in the coming months.
