Border trade across the India-Tibet route at Lipulekh Pass is set to restart on August 1 after a delay of about two months. The reopening had been awaited by traders, but the first phase will begin on a very limited basis.
According to the latest update, China will allow only 20 Indian traders to cross in the initial batch. The movement is expected to happen without goods, meaning the first group will enter before regular trading activity begins.
The restricted start appears to be linked to pending infrastructure work at Taklakot, where facilities are still not fully ready. That has resulted in a phased arrangement rather than a full restoration of the seasonal border trade process.
The development suggests a cautious reopening of the Lipulekh Pass trade route, with both access and commercial activity being introduced gradually. For now, the restart marks progress, but normal goods movement is still waiting on operational readiness at the trading point.
