WHO’s figures also point to a heavy death toll, with more than 1,400 lives lost in the DRC outbreak. The latest rise keeps international attention focused on the pace of transmission and the pressure on response teams working to contain the disease.
At the same time, health authorities are watching developments in Uganda, where the rare Bundibugyo strain has raised concern as cases spread. The cross-border dimension increases the urgency for surveillance, rapid diagnosis and coordinated public health action in affected areas.
Officials have also begun vaccine trial efforts as part of the broader response. The move is aimed at testing tools that could help limit further spread while the outbreak continues to evolve in central and eastern Africa.
