According to the report, the experimental drug works by turning the cancer’s own oxidative stress against it. In simple terms, the treatment appears to exploit internal chemical strain inside tumor cells rather than only trying to block growth from the outside. That makes the finding notable because it points to a previously underused vulnerability in mesothelioma.
The study said disease control was achieved in 67% of patients, suggesting the approach may help slow or stabilize the illness in a meaningful share of cases. For a cancer with limited treatment options, that result stands out as an encouraging sign that targeting the tumor’s energy system could have clinical value.
Researchers also believe the same mechanism could eventually have implications beyond mesothelioma. If further studies confirm the results, this oxidative-stress approach may help open treatment possibilities for other cancers that rely on similar metabolic defenses.
