Fortune has released its 2026 Fortune Global 500 list, with Amazon moving into the top position and bringing Walmart's long run at No. 1 to an end. The leadership change is one of the biggest takeaways from this year's ranking and signals a notable shift at the very top of the corporate landscape.
The list also shows strong representation from the United States. U.S. companies hold 141 spots on the Global 500, the highest total in 18 years, giving the country the largest presence on the ranking.
Fortune's 2026 Global 500 also points to gradual progress in executive leadership diversity. A record 34 companies on the list are led by women CEOs, which raises female representation to 6.8% of the full 500-company ranking.
Another major theme is the scale of the biggest technology-linked businesses. Fortune said the "Magnificent Seven" generated $2.3 trillion in revenue, underscoring how much influence a small group of dominant companies now has within the broader global business environment.
