India’s telecom subscriber base increased marginally to 134.8 crore in June, according to the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The overall rise was driven by net additions on the networks of Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio.
Among the major operators, Airtel emerged as the growth leader in the month, based on the TRAI update. Jio also contributed to the increase, helping lift the country’s total subscriber count even as the market remains intensely competitive.
The June numbers suggest that user gains continue to be concentrated among the largest private telecom players. In a mature market like India, even a modest increase in total subscribers is closely watched because it reflects shifts in operator performance and customer preference.
TRAI’s monthly subscriber data is an important gauge of momentum in the telecom sector, especially for tracking which companies are adding users and strengthening their position. The latest release points to steady expansion in the subscriber base, with Airtel and Jio accounting for the key gains in June.
