Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has urged his Tamil Nadu counterpart, C Joseph Vijay, to reconsider restrictions on the inter-state transportation of rough stone. The request brings fresh attention to the flow of a key construction material between the two neighboring states.
According to the Kerala government’s stated concern, the curbs have adversely affected the supply chain and disrupted construction activity. Officials also see a serious risk of delays in the completion of several strategically important projects if the movement of stone does not improve.
The issue highlights how transport controls on basic raw materials can ripple across the wider economy. When rough stone supplies tighten, construction schedules can slow, procurement becomes more difficult, and both public and private works face uncertainty.
By pressing for a review of the measures, Kerala is signaling that smoother coordination with Tamil Nadu is essential for keeping projects on track. The development also underscores the importance of uninterrupted interstate material movement for the construction sector in southern India.
