U.S. stock futures were mixed Tuesday as investors balanced a heavy schedule of corporate earnings with the opening of a Federal Reserve interest-rate meeting. The uneven setup pointed to a cautious start for the major indexes, with technology shares again playing an outsized role in overall market direction.

Chip stocks were a key source of pressure, weighing on the Nasdaq Composite and also holding back the S&P 500. Even with weakness concentrated in parts of tech, the broader market picture was more resilient, as most sectors in the S&P 500 traded higher.

That split highlighted how losses in influential technology names can offset gains across much of the rest of the market. According to the market snapshot, nine of the index's 11 sectors were in positive territory, but the S&P 500 still slipped because of weakness tied to tech shares.

At the same time, oil prices moved lower again, adding another factor for traders to digest alongside earnings results and Fed developments. With markets watching both corporate performance and interest-rate signals, the session reflected a tug-of-war between broad sector strength and pressure from semiconductors and other major tech stocks.
